"I am the best realtor in town, why did not someone find out?" (Frustrated Charlotte Realtor)

Michael Bloomberg, current mayor of New York City, came to fame as the founder of Bloomberg LP. His company builds and maintains data terminals for members of the financial community who need access to real-time financial data. He built this from nothing to a $ 10B + company in 20 years. He is obviously an astute and very successful businessman who knows a thing or two about data security service, both its customers and the press. Let me explain.

Bloomberg knew that the favorable media coverage was very important for the growth of your business. Therefore had to devise a way to ensure that all (or at least most) News about Bloomberg LP were positive. Short of threatening reporters, it was difficult to see how it could force him to write what I wanted (aka good things). It seemed like a crapshoot, any journalist can write what I wanted and could be influenced by anything to do with your business. For example, the journalist could have had a breakfast that did not sit well or his ex-wife may have had the maiden name of Bloomberg, which would result in a negative article. How could increase their chances of positive coverage?

Well, he hired a staff whose sole function was to work with the media. No all companies do this? Yes, but he took a step further. When reporters called, his staff asked them what they were writing about wanting speak, and what angle they were looking to take. When journalists appeared in Bloomberg The location of LP's, a packet of information is expected of them in relation to matters to be covered (all pro-Bloomberg LP, of course!).

In this information package, and what is separate Bloomberg, was an article (written already) on the topic they were planning to write. His staff would say something to the effect: "We know that reporters are busy and have a hard job with all these deadlines and such. So we thought we'd make it easier for you. Feel free to use as many article and if you want, no need to refer to our work. It's yours to do what you want, use Article in full, if you want! Do not tell anyone. "And as the story, most journalists use parts of the article in their stories and, of course, some reporters published the entire article verbatim.

"Ummm … I'm not a millionaire and can not afford to hire a staff of writers. Great article, though! "Thanks, but the point of the story is twofold:

  1. You can control much of the information about you in the public domain, just write positive things about yourself and have the index of search engines It!
  2. You can make it easier for people find positive information about you, simply provide each customer I find you! This can be in your business card, email signature, brochures or company

When people Google your name or href = "http://www.BDFRealty.com"> name of real estate firm, as coming out? What does your linked-in profile look like? What are "twittering" regularly? How are customers to find a way "good" they really are?

Do not make people do the work of drawing a conclusion about what type of player they are. Give the conclusion that you want to have on you (in easily). It worked out well for billionaire and mayor, Mike Bloomberg! Will you leave the job for you?
